2008 WSOP champion Peter Eastgate has become the newest member of Betfair Poker’s team of sponsored pros.

The former Main Event winner and one time PokerStars pro took a short retirement from poker recently and auctioned his Main Event bracelet for charity. Now refreshed and back in love with the game, Eastgate has signed a deal with Betfair.

“I had a 10-month hiatus where I didn’t play poker, then felt the lust to play again,” Eastgate said. “I still enjoy the game and there’s still a lot of challenges to the game. I’m not by any means the best player in the world, so there’s a lot of challenges.'

Eastgate joins John Tabatabai and Hans Martin Vogl in the Ongame site’s team of sponsored pro players.

Three-dimensional online poker domain PKR.com has announced the launch of a free virtual encyclopaedia at ThePokerWiki.com that has been designed to provide players with a wide range of content contributed by aficionados from around the world.

Although initially funded by PKR.com, ThePokerWiki.com has been developed as a stand-alone project and allows users to submit edits and updates ‘in true wiki fashion’ as well as add to their own articles.

“PKR.com has worked with a team of writers to get ThePokerWiki.com up and running but from now on our involvement will be very hands-off,” said Dan Grant, Media Manager for PKR.com.

“The future of ThePokerWiki.com is now in the hands of the poker community who we hope will pick up the baton and contribute content to help create the world’s foremost repository for all things related to poker.”

As part of this process, professional poker players are being encouraged to write autobiographies while bloggers can provide articles about their websites. In addition, land-based casinos can add details of their card rooms and tournament schedules with live tournament organisers being pushed to support their events by posting information including results and reviews.

“Welcome to ThePokerWiki.com, the online poker encyclopedia created by players and for players,” reads a welcome message posted on ThePokerWiki.com.

“If you are here to brush up on your poker knowledge, we have a great range of articles covering all aspects of the game from history to strategy, players to poker rooms with more being added every week. What's more, you can be a part of poker history today by uploading an article of your own.

“Our aim is to become the number-one poker information site on the web by allowing players everywhere to share their knowledge of the game with the world.”

PokerStars has announced that players in Great Britain can now enjoy a range of real and play-money games while out and about using their iOS and Android-enabled mobile devices.

Dubbed PokerStars Mobile and offering real and play-money games of Texas hold’em, Omaha and Omaha hi-lo, the new service also allows players to participate in their favourite multi-table tournaments, cash and sit-and-go games while all competitors will automatically become a part of the operator’s global pool with no separation.

“PokerStars Mobile is more than just the migration of the existing PokerStars game product to the mobile platform,” said Jeffrey Haas, Director of New Platforms for PokerStars.co.uk.

“It’s an intentional product designed specifically for the form factors of mobile and tablet devices and the different ways people play games on them. This is the best authentic poker experience available for mobile devices today.”

PokerStars.co.uk stated that ‘one unique aspect of the PokerStars Mobile offering’ is its multi-table optimisation that allows users to ‘easily join several tables at the same time’ while the service’s ‘intelligent auto-switch technology’ and ‘flick navigation’ ensure that mobile competitors ‘never miss a hand’.

“PokerStars Mobile is going to transform where and when I play poker,” said Liv Boeree, a member of the Team PokerStars Pro squad of sponsored professional players.
“I now have access to the biggest tournaments and all my favourite cash games even when I’m not in front of my computer. I plan to play all the upcoming UKIPT events and will now be able to play some poker when travelling to or from a tournament.”

Just like its desktop counterpart, the games lobby for PokerStars Mobile comes complete with filters allowing competitors to locate all available games quickly alongside player and tournament search functions. Those playing while on the move will also earn VIP player points and frequent player points in the same way and at the same rate as desktop players.
